Different speaker brands take different approaches to the desktop audio market — and the differences matter more than the brand names. This is the hub for all our brand comparisons and competitive analyses.

Brand comparisons

  • Creative vs JBL — Two of the most common desktop speaker brands. Creative dominates the budget end; JBL brings home audio DNA to the desk. Which wins at each price point?
  • Wireless vs Wired — Not exactly a brand comparison, but the most common buying decision. When Bluetooth earns its premium, and when wired is the obvious choice.

The main brands to know

Logitech: The dominant player in budget-to-mid desktop speakers. The Z313 (2.1, $55) and Z623 (2.1, $200) are two of the most-recommended systems at their respective price points. Reliable, widely available, good value.

Creative: PC audio specialists with a long history in the space. The Pebble series is one of the best-value compact speaker lines available. Stronger at budget than premium.

JBL: Consumer audio brand with a dedicated desktop speaker line. Good quality, slightly more expensive per feature than Logitech at comparable price points.

Audioengine: The step-up brand once you’re spending $150+. The HD3 ($399) and A2+ ($269) are what audiophile-leaning PC builders upgrade to when they’re done with consumer speakers. Genuinely better drivers, proper DAC built in.

Edifier: Chinese brand with a strong value proposition in the $100–$200 space. The R1280T and R1700BT are frequently recommended as alternatives to Audioengine at a lower price. Build quality has improved significantly in recent years.
