The KN85 earns its reputation for sound. The custom gasket-like mounting structure isolates the PCB from the case walls, producing a deeper typing sound with a subtle flex that plate-mounted boards at this price do not deliver. If you spend more time typing than gaming, and you care how your keyboard sounds and feels, the KN85 is the board worth looking at first.
Gasket mounting used to be a feature of $150+ keyboards. Budget boards with gasket or gasket-style designs have become more common, but the KN85 is one of the more accessible examples at $59 that gets the sound profile right without requiring aftermarket foam or switch swaps to achieve it.
Hot-swap sockets are included across the board. The stock switches are a solid starting point, but you can replace them without tools. Tactile switches like Gateron browns or Boba U4s work particularly well in gasket-mounted boards and further enhance the sound and feel.
Per-key RGB covers the standard 16.8 million colors with solid customization options. The 75% layout includes the function row and arrow keys, making it viable for daily use beyond just typing.
- Gasket-style mount for better sound
- Hot-swap sockets
- Per-key RGB
- Good value for the build quality
- Wired only
- Less brand community vs Keychron
