The Keychron V6 Max sits in an interesting position in Keychron’s lineup: it’s a full-size wireless keyboard with QMK/VIA firmware, the same wireless stack as the K10 Max, and Gateron Banana switches — for $12 less than the K10 Max. It’s not an obvious upgrade or downgrade from the K10 Max. It’s a parallel option with a different switch character that appeals to people who prefer a lighter tactile feel.

Gateron Banana switches are a lighter tactile than the K10 Max’s Super Banana. The bump is gentler and the actuation weight is lower, which some typists prefer — particularly anyone coming from membrane keyboards who wants tactile feedback without the heavy resistance of Browns or Clears. They’re smooth, consistent Gateron switches that hold up well over years of daily use. The hot-swap sockets accept any 3-pin or 5-pin MX-compatible switch if you want to experiment.

QMK/VIA firmware works identically to every other Keychron Max board: full key remapping at the firmware level, custom layers, macros — all persistent across any computer you connect to. The wireless setup is also identical: 2.4GHz for low-latency gaming, Bluetooth 5.0 multi-device for pairing up to three devices, USB-C wired as backup. The polycarbonate frame is the same as the K10 Max.

The meaningful difference between the V6 Max and K10 Max is the switch spec. If you know you prefer lighter tactiles, the V6 Max is the right call. If you want a heavier, more distinct bump, the K10 Max’s Super Banana delivers it. For someone who hasn’t tried either switch type, the K10 Max is the safer default because Super Banana has more community discussion behind it. But the V6 Max is a fully capable wireless full-size keyboard in its own right — $12 less is a legitimate reason to choose it.
