The Redragon K631 Gery is a 65% mechanical keyboard that gets the fundamentals right at $40. Hot-swap sockets, per-key RGB, USB-C connection, and a design that does not scream budget gaming gear. Redragon has been making affordable peripherals long enough to smooth out the rough edges that plagued their earlier boards.
The hot-swap feature is the main differentiator at this price. You can pull the stock switches and install whatever you like — linears, tactiles, clicky — without touching a soldering iron. That flexibility is worth a lot when you are not sure what switch feel you prefer. Buy the board, try the stock switches, upgrade later if needed.
The 65% layout means you keep dedicated arrow keys without the full TKL footprint. For gaming that is straightforward. For daily use it means not having to use FN layers to navigate documents. The board can do both without constant compromises.
Per-key RGB on the K631 is solid. The lighting does not have the depth of premium boards, but it covers the basics well. The Redragon software works for basic RGB customization and macro programming. It is more capable than minimalist software but less polished than Corsair iCUE or Razer Synapse.
The main downsides are ABS keycaps (which shine with use over time) and no wireless option. For most buyers at $40 these are expected tradeoffs. The board also does not have any acoustic padding or foam dampening, so it can sound a bit hollow depending on switch choice. Dropping aftermarket foam in later resolves that.
At $40 with hot-swap, the K631 Gery is the reliable mid-range 65% pick. It is not flashy, but it works well and leaves room to improve it over time.
