The Perixx PERIBOARD-317 is the keyboard I’d recommend to anyone with low vision who wants something that just works without a fight. It’s a full-size 104-key membrane board with oversized white-on-black legends — roughly three times the size of standard keycap text — and a clean white LED backlight that illuminates each character from underneath without bleeding around the edges.
That backlight detail is the difference-maker. A lot of “large print” keyboards either skip the backlight entirely (useless in dim rooms) or slap on a rainbow RGB system that washes the letters out. Perixx went with a calm, consistent white glow that you can adjust through three brightness levels using a function combo. Day or night, the legends stay crisp.
Typing feel is solid for a membrane board. Quiet but not mushy. The keys have a soft cushion at the bottom of the press that’s gentler on arthritic hands than the snappy bottom-out you get on most office boards. F and J have prominent tactile bumps, and Perixx also added a bump to the numpad 5 — a small touch that data-entry users will appreciate.
Build quality is on the lighter side. It’s not going to feel like a chunky vintage IBM. But the keycaps don’t wobble, the legends are printed deep into the cap and won’t wear off, and the cable is sturdy. It connects over plain USB-A so it works on Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, and Linux without any drivers.
Verdict
For under twenty bucks, the PERIBOARD-317 is the most flexible large-print keyboard money can buy. The combination of oversized legends, clean backlight, and quiet membrane keys covers every common use case for low-vision users — bright office, dim bedroom, daytime, late night. If you’re buying one keyboard for accessibility, get this one.
