Noise — AUSDOM Wins
This is the AUSDOM’s headline feature. The silicone damper layer under each key kills the bottom-out impact that drives most keyboard noise. If you’ve ever been annoyed by your spouse’s loud typing in the next room, this is the keyboard that solves it. For shared offices, living-room setups, or anyone with hearing aids that pick up ambient clatter, the AUSDOM is the clear winner.
The Perixx is also quiet — quieter than your average office keyboard — but it’s noticeably louder than the AUSDOM. The difference is real and audible side by side.
Backlight Quality — Perixx Wins
This is where the Perixx pulls ahead. Its backlight is clean — each keycap is illuminated evenly, the light comes through the legend cleanly, and there’s no bleed around the edges. The AUSDOM’s backlight is okay but you can see light leaking around the spacebar and a few of the larger keys. For users with very sensitive vision, that extra glare can actually make legends harder to read.
Legend Size — AUSDOM Barely Wins
The AUSDOM’s legends are about 5% larger than the Perixx’s. It’s not a huge gap, but it’s measurable. If you need every pixel of legibility you can get, the AUSDOM has a slight edge here.
Tactile Markers — Perixx Wins
Both have F and J bumps. The Perixx also has a bump on numpad 5, which is a small but real advantage for data-entry users.
Build Quality
The Perixx feels slightly more solid in hand. The AUSDOM isn’t bad, just a half-step below. Neither is going to last twenty years, but both should hold up to several years of normal use.
Cable & Setup
AUSDOM has the longer cable (5+ ft vs the Perixx’s ~5 ft — close, but the AUSDOM has a noticeable extra few inches). Both are plug-and-play with no drivers. Tied on compatibility.
Verdict
Get the AUSDOM if: noise matters. Shared office, living-room setup, hearing-aid user, light sleeper next door — the quiet typing experience is the real differentiator.
Get the Perixx PERIBOARD-317 if: you want the best all-around board with the cleanest backlight. It’s the safer recommendation when noise isn’t a specific concern.
Bottom Line
Both are excellent. AUSDOM wins for quiet typing, Perixx wins for overall polish. The price difference is small enough that the right choice comes down to whether or not noise is a factor. See the full large-print keyboard guide for the rest of our top picks.
