Bose and Logitech are both household names in desktop speakers, but they occupy very different market positions. Here’s how they actually compare.

Logitech: the volume play

Logitech makes a wide range of desktop speakers from $18 to $200+. The Z-series is the product family that matters: Z313 ($55, 2.1), Z623 ($200, 2.1 THX), and Z533 ($120, 2.1) cover budget through mid-range. Logitech discloses RMS wattage, publishes frequency response specs, and prices competitively. The Z313 in particular is one of the best-value speaker systems at any price point.

Bose: the premium compact play

Bose’s dedicated desktop speaker line is essentially gone — the Companion 2 Series III and Companion 5 are both discontinued. Current Bose options for desk audio are portable Bluetooth speakers repurposed for stationary use, or their soundbar line. Bose characteristically doesn’t disclose power ratings, which makes objective comparison difficult. What they do offer is a refined, easy-listening sound tuning and premium build quality.

The verdict

This comparison used to be closer. When the Bose Companion 2 Series III was current, it was a legitimate alternative to the Logitech Z313 for buyers who wanted a cleaner 2.0 setup over a 2.1 system. With Bose’s desktop line now discontinued, Logitech wins this comparison by default — they’re the only one still actively competing in the space.

If brand matters to you and you want Bose audio on your desk, a Bose SoundLink portable speaker works in a stationary role. But for dedicated desktop PC audio with a 2.1 system, Logitech is the clear answer. The Z313 at $55 beats anything Bose currently offers for a desk setup at any price.
